  • Who runs with the wolves?

Who is the woman who runs with the wolves? Who trusts her deep instincts? Who may shelter strays and see through the disguise that we wear? One who is coming home to the forest, to the deep roots that run through the dark soil, rich earth of dream and deep knowing?

The heat of summer sends me into a form of hibernation these days, I do not want to be outside at all until it cools off. It has rained a lot this year but we are going back into a three week drought and the air is heavy with pollution. Pollen makes way for dust, coal dust from the trains coming from West Virginia, heading for the coal powered Duke Energy plant in our area.
Farmers plow and the dust and dirt rise up into the air, everything seems coated and layered with particles. Cars drive and tires degrade, leaving tiny bits of latex and petrochemical by products in the mix.

Even my weeds which I leave standing in my flower patch are drying up if I do not water them. I let the milkweeds grow and watch the parade of insects as they feed and harbor in this patch of poisonous flowers. I have watched a colony of Tussock moths strip the leaves of one plant, starting with the bottom and heading toward the top of the 6 foot high plant, skeletonizing the leaves one by one as they climb. In addition to the bumble bees and occasional Monarch their are other types of insects that love the milkweed.
    Ah, summer!!
